read to feed the soul

We beat our fearsome opponent and went home celebrating our hard fought victory, our talented coaches, and the ability to enjoy a sport that can have positive impacts on the players and its fans. Still, it was in the context of the temporal. Even as a sports fan, I must never let the temporal outweigh the spiritual. There is no comparison between the two. Lord, You know. Please help me to know.
Nearness to God is the goal. Everything else is an outpouring of our close proximity to the Giver of life itself.
God is steady in the building of our webs. He is steady as we sit in the center and admire our work. He is steady when our web is dismantled. He is steady as we pick ourselves up and design a new web.
Being cut back is harder than growing like crazy. I don’t prefer it. Let’s be real, it hurts and we also wonder if we will grow back.
God did some work inside of me on that island. I began to realize that I had unknowingly put limits on the Psalmist’s words, “I will dwell in the house of the Lord”, referenced in Psalm 23.
When our front lawn began to turn from a medium beige to a lovely shade of spring green, I was elated. It was time for the hum of the lawnmower and a refreshing look to our address.
Trends have changed in morals. Only a short time ago certain behaviors were considered immoral or immodest. Exposure is the prevailing theme in the present age, and moral fashion is determined by the individual.
Years and experience have gradually taught me that real discipleship is about being Christ-like – not in the supernatural but in the ordinary.
A new normal – that’s what I’ve heard repeatedly on the news for days. Terrorists, extremists, and radicals are some of the new normal names. All are meant to strike terror into the hearts and minds of the average citizen and turn violence into the universal language.
